Kindoki Witch Boy

On the 25th anniversary of Victoria Climbié’s tragic death, Kindoki Witch Boy highlights faith-based abuse in the UK. This 50-minute film, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Penny Woolcock, recounts the true story of Mardoche Yembi, who faced witchcraft accusations from his family at just 12 years old.

After losing his mother in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mardoche was sent to North London, where he endured horrific accusations driven by religious beliefs. Rescued by a foster mother, he rebuilt his life and now advocates for other children.

“I want this film to turn my painful experience into hope, showing children that they are not alone and there is help available,” says Mardoche.

Co-written by Mardoche and Woolcock, the film features a blend of actors and community members. It concludes with a discussion featuring Mardoche and others dedicated to combating faith-based abuse.
